*Essential Function:* Within the framework of Directions in Independent Living, under the direct supervision of the operations manager, and the Compeer Program’s goals and objectives, the Compeer Program Director coordinates all facets of the Cattaraugus County Compeer Program.
The Compeer Program Director administers a program to utilize volunteers in supportive 1:1 friendship relationships with persons diagnosed with mental illness.
*Duties and Principal Responsibilities:* Planning, development and implementation of program objectives.
Administration of procedures for volunteers, participants, therapists, and new program development.
*Overall coordination/ supervision of all facets of local program including:* 1.
Recruit, interview and screen Volunteers.
2.
Train Volunteers and facilitate matches between volunteers and referrals.
3.
Communicate / link with mental health providers to receive referrals.
4.
Receive and record monthly updates from volunteers to monitor Compeer matches.
React effectively to issues of concern.
5.
Plan, develop and implement Compeer enrichment activities and events.
Compile and distribute Compeer Quarterly newsletter.
6.
Chair annual volunteer appreciation and recognition dinner.
7.
Connect senior volunteers with the RSVP program at the Office of the aging.
8.
Program procedures / statistical measures necessary for quality assurance program evaluation and assessment.
*Qualifications:* · Associates in social work, human services or psychology preferred.
· Demonstrated experience as an administrator and as a volunteer.
· Must submit to a background check through the Office of Mental Health.
· Demonstrated ability to work well with mental health professionals, volunteers, clients and groups.
· Experience in public relations.
· Knowledge of mental health system.
· Demonstrated ability in interviewing skills and dealing with individuals on a 1:1 basis.
Ability to express oneself well with individuals and in groups, both in person and in writing.
Emotional maturity.
*Working Conditions:* The Compeer Program Director will work some evenings and weekends to accommodate the various events and activities set up to enrich and support Compeer friendships.
This includes a regular weekly games or crafts night at Olean’s First Baptist Church on Thursdays from 3 to 6PM.
Director should have knowledge and experience with crafts and sewing in order to teach participants crafts projects.
The Compeer Program Director must also research venues to hold other activities, such as picnic, cookouts, bowling and parties.
It is advisable to be able to plan and organize events and parties.
*Physical Requirements:* There are some physically demanding requirements.
Must be able to lift and transport several heavy items, such as sewing machines, large totes of material, coolers, etc.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $16.
