*GENERAL DESCRIPTION: *Assist medical oncologist, physician assistant and registered nurses in the delivery of patient care at the Cancer Care Center.
The LPN is required to schedule patient appointments, assist physician and physician assistant, perform therapeutic injections and venipunctures, assist registered nurses in infusion area and other related duties.
*JOB DUTIES:*
* Schedules medical oncology patient appointments, initial and follow-up visits, tests, procedures, etc.
* Obtains insurance pre-certification when required, PET scans, CT, MRI, chemotherapy, etc.
* Assists physician, physician assistant, or registered nurse with procedures
* Locates ICD-10 codes for patient care.
* Assists in assessment of physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients
* Obtains laboratory specimens per physician order.
* The Licensed Practical Nurse may pass oral medications and administer drugs under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse; give intramuscular and other subcutaneous injections after successfully completing the orientation for medication administration.
* LPN’s may start and maintain IV’s, administer IV mixtures and secondary IV medications (with the exception of KCL bolus), adjust the rate of IV fluid and discontinue IV therapy, obtain and clear volume infused and left to count volumes with use of IV pumps.
* Gives direct care to patients with nursing problems and assists with care of patients.
* Performs and/or assists in treatments and procedures, such as insertion of straight and retention catheter; changing and application of dressings and compresses; and setting up IV therapy.
* Observes patients and records information according to prescribed hospital and departmental policy and procedure.
* Proper use of equipment used directly with patients, sequential pumps, blood pressure monitoring, cryo cuffs, cardiac monitors, cooling blankets, BiPap, and lifts.
* Assists in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family instruction.
*REQUIREMENTS:*
* Graduate from an accredited school of Practical Nursing.
* Two years experience Med/Surge inpatient care.
* One year critical care or Oncology experience.
