Join Us in Making a Difference! The UPMC Chautauqua laboratory invites you to explore our full-time Phlebotomist opening.
In this role, you'll serve variable first and second shifts, including rotating holidays and weekends.
As a Phlebotomist, your primary responsibility is to accurately perform phlebotomy and specimen collection from inpatients and outpatients.
These samples play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating patients.
Additionally, you'll handle computer tasks, assist with courier services, and perform essential clerical functions that contribute to smooth laboratory operations.
Collaborating closely with Medical Technologists, you'll ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Be a part of our life-changing mission! The responsibilities of this role include - Customer Interaction: You'll interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers.
Timely responses to telephone inquiries are essential.
Specimen Collection: Following proper patient identification procedures, you'll procure appropriate blood specimens through venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick.
Additionally, you may collect samples other than blood.
Dependability and Judgment: Demonstrating dependability and reliability, you'll recognize priorities to accommodate department needs.
Accepting appropriate authority is crucial.
Off-Site Collection: Specimen collection may occur at off-site locations.
You'll transport specimens from both on- and off-site areas to the relevant laboratory section, adhering to safety protocols.
Policy Adherence: You'll strictly adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies.
This includes procedures, quality control, safety measures (such as hand hygiene and isolation precautions), and personnel policies.
Clerical Duties: As required, you'll perform related clerical tasks.
Accurate data entry into information systems, test order management, and ensuring sample identity are part of your responsibilities.
Training and Orientation: You'll train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable and assigned.
Communication: Promptly inform technical staff, supervisory personnel, and pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
Arterial Puncture: In some cases, you may perform arterial punctures following strict collection and post-collection guidelines.
Supply Management: Monitor and maintain supplies efficiently, using materials and reagents in a cost-effective manner.
Required High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
