Position Description: Full-time.
Grant-funded, year-round professional staff position responsible for providing early outreach, information, and support to high school students engaged in SUNY JCC programs, including College Connections, PEP, and EARN.
Provides basic information on programs of study and appropriate coursework and acts as a link to faculty advisors.
Informs students of high-demand occupations within the region and the necessary coursework or training to attain employment in those fields.
Essential Functions: Provides academic advisement to general high school population enrolling in JCC coursework (e.
g.
guiding students through advisement preparation materials and resources, clarifying programs and options, etc.
) Engages in proactive outreach to students as needed to support them on their academic pathway as needed (guides students through processes).
Connects students who plan on going directly into the workforce after high school graduation with training opportunities (ex: EMT, HVAC) Utilizes resources from sources, such as the Department of Labor and Workforce Investment Board, to inform students of high-demand occupations.
Connects students to Career Communities and faculty advisors in their area of interest.
Supports students by assisting them with technology and web resources (e.
g.
, DegreeWorks, MyJCC, etc.
) Assists with efforts to make students online-learning ready.
Connects and communicates with high school counselors on a variety of topics, including information related to college pathways, advisement/scheduling of students, and on-campus coursework opportunities.
Assists with coordinating and implementing information sessions for high school students.
Participates in and presents at high school events/functions.
Obtains necessary student lists, manages appointments, and tracks student data, as needed.
Connect students to appropriate resources on-campus and inform appropriate individuals/departments on-campus of any necessary follow-up actions with students and/or parents.
Attend outreach events such as information nights, countywide high school counselor meetings, etc.
Help students, as needed, with information on transferring college credits.
Travel as needed to area high schools and BOCES centers.
Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of professional experience.
Oral and written communication skills and group presentation skills necessary.
Competence with technology and commonly used software programs.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Commitment to providing excellent customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred: Experience in higher education advisory setting.
Experience in a secondary educational setting.
Additional Information: Salary: $23.
88 - 26.
64/hour.
Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
