Position Description: Full-time.
Under the direction of the President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer and provides leadership and management to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the VPAA provides vision and overall guidance for academic policy and goal achievement and oversees educational planning; program development, management, and assessment; and monitors and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of academic programs.

Promotes quality instruction, student success, and integrated planning to ensure excellence in academic affairs.
Supports college policy, goals, values, and administrative decisions.
Fosters a spirit of collaboration, mutual support, and respect for the work and vision of the college, and routinely engages other areas in idea exploration, partnership, and project development.
Promotes the professional growth and development of faculty.
Innovative leader that will direct Academic Affairs with integrity, respect, collegiality, accountability, and service Cultivates a climate for faculty to develop new in-demand academic programs and options based on the needs of employers in the region; aligns program development and delivery in collaboration with Workforce Development, Transfer Destinations, and High School Partners.
Oversees the management and review of all academic affairs functions to ensure that the needs of students and the mission and vision of the college are met.
Provides leadership for teaching and learning activities and events that build community and serve students and staff Organizes a modern curriculum review process including reviewing and approving new, revised, and discontinued programs, courses, and related academic activities and processes.
Guides the preparation of the academic calendar and the adaptation and implementation of the class schedule each semester/term.
Establishes operational processes in academic affairs and makes necessary modifications based on analysis of operations, demographics, and other pertinent data.
Directs the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions in collaboration with Finance & Operations; directs the forecast of FTE and additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; and makes midyear corrections as needed.
Supervises, evaluates, and directs the work of assigned personnel.
Contributes to college planning and resource development Understands and appreciates the mission of the community college and relays it to all constituencies.
Aligns efforts of the academic division with the JCC Foundation to secure funds for new programs/curriculum development and improvement; to optimize the awarding of scholarships for recruitment.
Makes decisions consistent with the mission, vision, values, and goals of the college.
Demonstrates the ability to make data-informed decisions and links resource allocation to planning and priorities while maintaining sound fiscal management, accreditation and strategic plan alignment, and high standards of excellence.
Participates in college-wide and academic division-specific goal development and oversees goal progress, achievement, and reporting.
Ensures compliance with college, accreditation, and SUNY standards.
Collaborates effectively with internal and external constituents to advance the college Empowers others to lead with integrity and value-driven principles.
Supports the development and implementation of a plan to strengthen and improve enrollment, retention, and completion.
Works effectively with community groups, educational partners, businesses, and government and legislative bodies to develop partnerships which result in improved service to students and to the community.
Develops internal and external partnerships to develop and maintain in-demand programs, garner resources, and better serve students and the community.
Initiates joint programs with baccalaureate institutions that provide enticing incentives for JCC graduates.
Strengthens and expands program pathways with high schools.
Leads initiatives to expand offerings to support students.
Represents the college as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) at meetings and conferences; serves as the CAO on committees, commissions, boards, and other groups.
Makes presentations at meetings, workshops, and events as assigned.
Routinely advises the President on matters of academic affairs and other college-wide issues.
Completes other duties as assigned by the President.
Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the U.
S.
Department of Education.
College or university full-time teaching experience.
Five years of senior administrative experience that includes organization level decision-making and interaction with an executive team.
Strong and documented ability to collaborate with and develop effective partnerships with internal and external groups.
Preferred: Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the U.
S.
Department of Education.
Community college teaching experience.
Community college administrative experience at the department level or above.
Demonstrated use of technology in higher education.
Experience in a regional accreditation process, such as MSCHE.
Demonstrated experience in managing department or division human, physical, and financial resources.
Evidence of familiarity with and ability to schedule classes and coordinate faculty teaching load assignments to maximize student success and completion, allocating released time, overload, and other compensation models.
Experience in design, development, implementation, and assessment of student learning and academic program outcomes.
Knowledge of state and federal codes, statutes, and regulations that govern the community college instruction in New York State.
Additional Information: Salary: $128,000 to $150,000.
Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
