Beacon Light Behavioral Health System is looking for an SAP Liaison/Prevention Specialist who is responsible to identify non-academic barriers to learning and in collaboration with families, to strategize for and/or refer identified students for assistance that will enhance their school success.
As representatives of the community mental health systems, professionally trained liaisons provide consultation to teams and families regarding the need for referral to community-based assessment for the mental health problems.
As Prevention Specialist this individual is responsible for the planning and implementation of prevention and intervention outreach activities in Warren and Forest Counties.
This involves assisting with data collection and program development/implementation in order to minimize the abuse of D & A.
Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures but the employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties.
The Prevention Specialist assists with the planning, conducting and facilitation of education and information programs concerning the identification of chemical abuse behavior.
Through utilization of various media techniques, D & A education information is effectively disseminated throughout the community.
This individual provides instruction to school students in coping skills, decision making, self-concept and self-esteem in order to improve their ability to function and relate to others.
The Prevention Specialist is to provide support sessions and group sessions for students on an as needed basis, and assists them in accessing D&A services and recreational activities or other community resources in order to address identified needs.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
This position gives preference to individuals with an active driver's license and a DMV check that is clear.
Position may require travel 25-50% of the time in the local community or to assist with individuals attending required appointments or visits.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor's degree in Human Services field or;
A bachelor's degree in a non-Human Service related field with 1 year of paid experience with children or teens.
Must also demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:
Understanding of the current developments in the D & A field.
Knowledge of problems in the schools and community in relation to D & A consumption.
Knowledge of school district organizational structure, curriculum, and policies and practices.
Knowledge of health impacts relating to D & A consumption.
Knowledge of D & A highway safety laws and their application.
Demonstrate ability to gather data in order to compose advertising and educational literature and deliver speeches on D & A topics.
Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with the general public.
